A close-up of the painted half of the mermaid. I used ink on muslin fabric to
render everything from the waist up.

Laying in the strips of fabric that will create the sky fading
into the sea.

The final fabric has been added to include the butterfly in her lap, rocks and the
rest of the water. As an accent I also added some fresh water pearls for
one of the bracelets and the bottom of the longest necklace.
Now this will be handed over to my mother who will do the final
quilting and add the border and binding.

A close up of the butterfly and pearls.

Mermaid Fiber Art Quilt
Work-in-progress

The top half of the mermaid was painted with ink on fabric from a reference found on www.deviantart.com. Thank you to Alice LeFay for the wonderful stock photos. Check out her gallery!

The bottom half of the mermaid was constructed from fabric tacked down with glue onto muslin. Once the background (sky, sea, and rocks) have been tacked down, it will be put together and then quilted. Check back often for more updates!
